WASCO, Calif. — October 31, 2026. A planned fiber-to-the-home network continues to be a major connectivity initiative for Wasco, where the city has partnered with internet provider unWired Broadband on construction and oversight.
In its public project announcement, the city describes a private provider-led investment involving underground trenching, fiber placement along sidewalks and streets, and small network hubs, including infrastructure on city property.
Who is building it?
The city says unWired is leading and funding the fiber network, with Wasco reviewing routes and construction standards. Residents may see crews in public rights-of-way as phases are implemented.
Fiber-to-the-home can deliver higher-capacity internet than older connections, but a fiber line along a street does not guarantee that every address is currently connected or that every service plan has the same price or speed.
What residents should verify
Before signing up, households should ask the provider whether their exact address is eligible, the expected installation schedule, total monthly fees, any equipment charges and service terms. Property owners with construction concerns can ask the city about permitted right-of-way work.
The original city announcement was issued in 2025. It establishes the program, not the exact October 2026 completion percentage; the city indicates that individual phases require further review.
